The Harbinger of Summer

June is the time of year for the Japanese Irises in the Garden to shine. As the last plant to bloom in the Garden, it is the harbinger of summer. The buds open up in late June to reveal flowers nearly six inches across in shades of purple and white. As the flowers fade in July, we are led into a warm, relaxing new season.
