Cultural Performance: Taiko Drum by Takumi Kato and Sons

Join us for a free Japanese musical performance featuring taiko drums. This exciting and high-energy cultural performance will be held from 1:15 to 2:30pm at the Cathy Rudd Cultural Corner in the Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Arts Learning Center. Come hear the strong, gentle and warm tones of the taiko drum.

Takumi Kato has been performing taiko for 25 years and trained for two years with the world famous Kodo drummers at their village on Sado Island. He has performed in Japan, at international events, and for numerous dignitaries including the current and former Emperor of Japan. Takumi and his young family have moved to the United States for five years with the goal of performing in all 50 states with 1,000 performances. He will be joined in his Portland Japanese Garden performance by his three young sons aged five, nine, and ten.
