2023年8月9日　米国オレゴン州ポートランド市に所在するポートランド日本庭園ならびにその姉妹組織であるジャパン インスティテュート（以下「インスティテュート」）は、日本事務所を東京都内に設立、初代所長に伊藤実佐子氏を任命した。新事務所は国際文化会館（東京都港区）内に設けられており、日本国内に活動拠点を置くことで、両組織は今後、より多くの日本国内のパートナーと協力・協働する機会の拡大を目指す。

Portland Japanese Garden and its sibling organization, Japan Institute have announced the appointment of Misako Ito as the new Executive Director of the organizations’ newly established Japan Office in Tokyo. In 2022, the Garden and Institute established its permanent, year-round presence in Japan at the International House of Japan, commonly referred to as I-House. This exciting endeavor will afford the organizations better opportunities to collaborate with its partners in Japan.

Behind the Shoji, opening Saturday, 7/1 and running through Monday, 9/4 in Portland Japanese Garden’s Pavilion Gallery, is one of the Garden’s most beloved summer traditions. An annual show and sale of Japanese and Japanese-inspired wares, visitors can peruse and purchase from a variety of curated items often unavailable short of a visit to Japan itself.

There is no better place for summer travelers to visit than Portland Japanese Garden. With the days growing warmer and sun shining longer, the higher elevation of the Garden and its lush and verdant surroundings in a Pacific Northwest forest provide a cool respite to those who journey here.

Portland Japanese Garden is delighted to share that its first new art exhibition of 2023, starting March 18, will feature the work of Japan Institute’s inaugural Artist-in-Residence, Rui Sasaki. Hailed as a “glass virtuoso” by The New York Times, Sasaki made two separate journeys east from her native Japan to collect plant life from Portland Japanese Garden to create a site-specific experience.

The inviting Umami Café is an idyllic and romantic setting, cast against a backdrop of Pacific Northwest forest and the Garden’s Cultural Village.
