Since opening our sliding glass doors to you less than one year ago, our Umami Café servers have enjoyed showing you the utmost omotenashi. To us, omotenashi goes much deeper than simply providing hospitality. We wholeheartedly value you as our guest and want to provide you with the most outstanding service possible. That said, we’re pleased to introduce seasonal specials in the Umami Café.

The Umami Café is serving tarts from Mio’s Delectables made right here in Portland. Owner Mio Asaka says she hopes to reach as many people possible through the “French-Japanese Twist” concept of her pastries. “I intend to incorporate the flavors of four seasons into my pastries. I am currently considering cherry blossoms for the spring,” said Asaka. Cameron Frank, chef and owner of Innkeeper Fine Foods, provides the Café’s miso as well as other savory foods to be paired with tea.

Come visit us in the Umami Café and enjoy warm miso soup, sweet potato with miso butter, and one of Asaka’s seasonal sweets. See your server for details and availability.

Starting January 2, the Umami Café is open to our members at 9:00am instead of 8:00am and the Garden Gift Shop is open to members at 9:00am instead of 10:00am.

Do come inside for some warm, quiet reflection.
