About the Participating Partners

Obon Shokudo
Since 2021 Obon Shokudo has been a plant-based Japanese comfort food restaurant located in Portland’s inner east side Buckman neighborhood. Co-founder & head chef, Japan-born Humiko Hozumi crafts renditions of some of her favorite dishes she enjoyed as a youngster in Saitama Prefecture. To flavor them, she uses misos & other concoctions formulated & created by her American-born husband & Obon’s other co-founder Jason Duffany. With a strong focus on using local, farm direct & sustainable ingredients, almost everything on their menu is made in-house from scratch, including their own carefully balanced curry blend, shokupan bread, udon noodles, off-beat & soy-free misos & inventive pickles. Another big draw for their food is that much of it is foraged: A wide variety of mushrooms, fiddlehead ferns, nettles & other wild herbs adorn their menu. Since opening, Obon Shokudo has won major reader-voted accolades, including top Oregon honors and national VegNews recognition.

Oyatsupan
Oyatsupan Bakers has established itself as one of the country’s most authentic and beloved Japanese bakeries since opening its doors in 2016 in Beaverton, Oregon. While many people associate sushi, ramen, and tempura with Japanese cuisine, bread and pastries are also an integral part of the country’s food culture. At Oyatsupan Bakers, founder Hiroyuki Horie and his skilled team build upon this tradition by baking everything from scratch using Hiroyuki’s extensively researched recipes several times daily to ensure peak freshness and flavor.

Umami Café
Our very own Umami Café will be open during Savor Japan, offering a thoughtfully curated menu of beverages, snacks, and sweets to enjoy during your visit. We’re serving coffee – hot and cold brew – from our local partners at Portland Coffee Roasters, alongside our traditional tea offerings from Jugetsudo and a rotating selection of seasonal teas from Jasmine Pearl. Guests can also enjoy a wide variety of snacks and sweets from our partners at Behind the Museum Café, Oyatsupan Bakery, St. Honoré, and Yume Confections.
