Event Information

For the first time, Portland Japanese Garden’s Vollum Library is participating in National Library Week. This year’s theme, “Find Your Joy,” resonates with why many visitors come to the Garden and invites everyone to explore what sparks their own sense of joy.

Located on the second floor of the Garden’s Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Arts Learning Center, the Vollum Library offers an ideal spot to sit, read, or study at the gorgeously crafted wooden table from Nakashima Studio, set within a stunning architectural space by Kengo Kuma and his team. While taking in the calming view of the surrounding landscape, visitors can peruse one of the largest collections of books on Japanese gardens and culture located outside of Japan. While the collection is not available for loans, the Vollum Library is a comfortable reading room that allows visitors to discover new sources of joy through the books on site.

During the Library’s open hours throughout National Library Week, there will be a curated selection of books to inspire you to “Find Your Joy.” Accompanied by a shiori (bookmark) making station, visitors are invited to share their inspiration and take home a bookmark.
