Kodomo no Hi, Children’s Day (and related events)

Celebrate Kodomo no Hi, or Children’s Day, at Portland Japanese Garden on May 5th with a variety of family-friendly activities, including taiko performances, origami lessons, and a special Discovery Map designed by Mike Bennett. Enjoy displays of koinobori, traditional cloth carp streamers, throughout the Atsuhiko and Ina Goodwin Tateuchi Foundation Courtyard and the Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Arts Learning Center, symbolizing the festive atmosphere of this celebration in Japan. While you’re here, visit the koi at the Zig-Zag Bridge near Heavenly Falls in the Strolling Pond Garden and learn about their symbolism of courage and determination through our “Curious About Koi” video in the Cathy Rudd Cultural Corner.
