Woodworker, Doug Drake, will show how he creates his Torii gate influenced boxes. He will share the process of design and the stages of construction through an interactive show and tell.

Artist Bio

Doug is an Oregon grown woodworker who loves giving trees a second – or even third – life as furniture and art. He uses wood from sustainable sources like neighborhood trees, reclaimed building materials and sustainably managed forests in the Pacific Northwest.

Doug divides his time between the sketch book and the shop. He is inspired to create his own spin on design and joinery, drawing from the Arts and Crafts Movement and Asian aesthetics. His influences include woodworker George Nakashima, an innovator of 20th century furniture design. He often puts new ideas through a few trials before striking the balance between utility and beauty.
