Our beloved display of bonsai have returned with the calling of spring! The art of bonsai, the creation of a miniaturized landscape that fulfills the human yearning for a connection to nature in the smallest of spaces, is back on display at the Garden with rotating seasonally resplendent specimens.

Additional bonsai are located in the Jubitz Oregon Terrace, second floor of Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Arts Learning Center, with accent plants placed on shelves along the stucco wall.

Portland Japanese Garden partners with local bonsai practitioners in Portland and from around the region. Bonsai on the Terrace will be rotated frequently, giving returning visitors a chance to see many different bonsai species and styles.

In order to keep the bonsai healthy, bonsai are taken out of rotation during the winter season when temperatures reach 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Don’t worry, they’re kept safe and cozy during this time so they’re ready for the spotlight from spring-fall.
