Professor Emeritus from Princeton University, Yoshiaki Shimizu, shares his lecture, Noh: The Slowest Profundity. This talk introduces basic concepts and history of Noh as one of the oldest continuing performing arts in the world and provides the context necessary for Western audiences to experience and enjoy this most mysterious and soulful performing art. Professor Shimizu’s lecture is followed by a demonstration of Noh mask carving by Kyoto-based master-carver Ohtsuki Kokun, whose masks are featured in Mirrors of the Mind: The Noh Masks of Ohtsuki Kokun. Mr. Ohtsuki’s demonstration will be narrated by Professor Shimizu.
