Japanese kimono design is known for its creative use of color and surface pattern, often developed from traditional motifs and imagery. This exhibition in the Tanabe Gallery includes a selection of six Japanese haori 羽織 , or kimono jackets, from the collection of long-term supporter, Larry Hermsen. Inspired by early-twentieth century Modern Art movements such as Cubism, Fauvism, and Russian Constructivism, these wearable objects have become works of art in their own right, transcending the function of everyday fashion.
