Member Exhibition Preview for “Earthen Elegance: The Ceramic Art of Bizen”

Join Portland Japanese Garden in celebrating the opening of Earthen Elegance: Ceramic Art of Bizen. In the Garden’s first exhibition of 2025, we will showcase stunning contemporary ceramic art and vessels from the Collection of David Sneider and Naomi Pollock. Recognized as one of the Rokkoyō (六古窯) Six Ancient Kilns of Japan, Bizen is a ceramic center that has continued its unique form of pottery for over 900 years. Notable for their rustic, textured, and unglazed forms, the ceramics featured in Earthen Elegance reveal the depths of the Bizen pottery tradition.

On February 8, Members of Portland Japanese Garden are invited from 9:00-10:00am to get a first look at this exhibition. The Pavilion will be open at 9:00am Wednesday through Monday (being closed Tuesdays) for member access throughout the exhibition.
