Enjoy a performance by Kotorito (香鳥絃), a Japanese musical group with wagakki, traditional Japanese musical instruments. Kotorito was founded in Portland, Oregon in 2018 by Kohgetsu Aoki, Eri Muroi, and Yumi Torimaru. The ensemble’s rich repertoire spans eras and styles, including both traditional minyo (Japanese folk) songs and modern Japanese compositions. Vocalist Aoki is joined by Muroi playing shamisen (a three-stringed traditional instrument) and Torimaru, who alternates between tsugaru shamisen, shinobue (bamboo flute), and taiko (drums).
