KGW-TV, Portland’s NBC affiliate, took a look back at the work of former Portland Japanese Garden Head Gardener Michael Kondo, who had been with the organization for 40 years by the time he retired in 2017.

National Geographic has published an article on how public gardens are introducing mindfulness to their guests and included Portland Japanese Garden among those leading the way. Writer Beverly Hurley spoke with Garden volunteer Cecily Hunt who has been leading mindfulness tours that borrow many of the same concepts found in the practice of shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing.

The Garden was delighted to welcome Good Morning Washington, a daily news program based out D.C. Travel correspondent Kidd O’Shea spoke with Marcus Hibdon, Vice President of Communications for Travel Portland. The Pacific Sentinel, a monthly magazine led by the student body of Portland State University, sat down with Lisa Christy, who was appointed Executive Director of Portland Japanese Garden at the beginning of 2024.
