Homes & Gardens, a more than 100-year-old publication based out of the United Kingdom that covers interior design and landscape architecture, recently surveyed experts on recommended trees to purchase for a Japanese garden. Hugo Torii, Garden Curator for Portland Japanese Garden and Director of the Japanese Garden Training Center, told journalist Jacky Parker, “‘The plantings can be mixed. At Portland Japanese Garden, we are surrounded by tall, native trees like Douglas firs that are not found in Japan. However, they contribute to the harmony of the space.” To read all of Torii’s thoughts, read the article at Homes & Gardens.
