Architizer contributor Eric Baldwin wrote an article covering the work of acclaimed architect and Portland Japanese Garden International Advisory Board Member Kengo Kuma. Kuma, with his team at Kengo Kuma & Associates, designed Portland Japanese Garden’s Cultural Village, his first public project in North America. Baldwin writes, “Made to be deferential to the landscape, all of the structures are LEED-certified and built to ensure that nature remains the site’s focal point. The result is a richly textured material palette and formal language that shows how contemporary design can reinterpret the past.”
