Oregon ArtsWatch writer Friderike Heuer visited Portland Japanese Garden in October to view our final exhibition of 2022, Garden of Resonance: The Art of Jun Kaneko. Heuer writes, “When you enter Portland Japanese Garden you encounter two humongous heads, facing each other in the Village Courtyard. One has expressed facial features, the other encourages face pareidolia, our tendency to see faces in nebulous forms, an inclination that is often used to advantage by visionary artists. There is something distinctly theatrical in the way they are positioned, a call-and-response imaginable between them, a felt disruption when people’s movement fills the gap between.”
