Few things are lovelier than the Garden ablaze with fall color. But when do the leaves actually start to change? Factors like temperature, light, and water ensure that the onset and duration of fall colors are difficult to predict perfectly.

As of mid-October, fall colors are beginning to transform the Garden, but many of the leaves have yet to transition from lush green to autumnal colors. Our famous Japanese Maple is still showing off shades of green and yellow. This week’s warm weather might speed changes, but could also cause some trees to drop leaves more quickly.
