The Summer 2013 issue of the Bilingual Newsletter features the story about the creation of the International Advisory Board for the Portland Japanese Garden.
In 2011, U.S. Ambassador John and Mrs. Susan Roos, Mr. and Mrs. Koichi and Mihoko Nezu, and Mr. Kengo Kuma announced the creation of the International Advisory Board for the Portland Japanese Garden to their friends in Japan at a reception held in Tokyo in October of 2011. Many of the founding members of the Advisory Board attended as did members of the Garden’s Board of Directors, meeting each other and many of Japan’s leaders. Since that time, the Advisory Board members have worked to build awareness of the Portland Japanese Garden as the leading organization for Japanese garden arts and culture. Many of them have visited Portland and the Garden while members of the Garden’s Board and other of our friends in the United States have likewise visited Japan and many of its historic gardens.
