As you may have read, Portland Japanese Garden will honor 2020–the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II–as the Year of Peace, and throughout the year we will be offering programming to promote peace. As a preview of this year ahead, join tea scholar Jan Waldmann on the anniversary of Pearl Harbor for a tea demonstration as a way to cultivate inner peace and peace in the world.
The Garden will offer a free public demonstration of Chado, the Way of Tea this Saturday from 1:00-2:00pm in the Japanese Arts Learning Center presented by Jan Waldmann. We are honored to partner with members of the Kashintei Kai Tea Society, who generously donate their time and knowledge to share this ancient and beautiful garden art form.
The Way of Tea is intrinsically linked to Japanese gardens and understanding the kokoro (heart) of Japanese gardening.
