Textile Exhibition by Andrea Aranow

Japanese Kimono: These recognizable silhouettes and the iconic status they are given could easily make one think they have existed forever. In fact, the kimono and the role they played in Japanese daily life evolved quickly over the past 100 years. In this lecture, noted fashion designer and textile collector Andrea Aranow will display a selection of kimono fabric swatches, chosen from the eight thousand pieces in the Textile Hive collection, as well as highlighting the connection to the textiles in the collection at the Portland Japanese Garden.

This survey and lecture will seek to highlight when changes in aesthetic occurred in kimono design, as well as the fibers and techniques used to execute these magnificent textiles from Japan. The event will take place in Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Arts Learning Center

Organized by Textile Hive and Portland Japanese Garden
