DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\nMembers and their guests are invited to the opening of Portland Japanese Garden’s latest Art Exhibition\, Vision of Place.\n\n\n\nThe Pavilion Gallery and Tanabe Gallery will be open during Member Hours starting at 9:00 AM offering members a first chance to see this exciting\, new exhibition. Staff members from our Art Department will be available in the Pavilion Gallery to answer questions about the artists and the featured art.\n\n\n\nAbout the Exhibition\n\n\n\nCelebrating 65 years of the Portland and Sapporo Sister City relationship\, Vision of Place welcomes the work of a local Portland photographer and Hokkaido-based photographers to showcase the beauty of Japan’s northernmost prefecture\, Hokkaido.\n\n\n\nShashin: Photographic Frontiers of Hokkaido \n\n\n\nCherry Blossom Season at Hakodate Goryokaku Castle ruins” 2022. Photo by Hisao Asano.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn the Pavilion Gallery\, we’ve invited The North Finder. This Hokkaido-based group of photographers’ mission to “raise the image of Hokkaido through photography and help people to know Hokkaido more deeply” to share their perspective of Sapporo (capital of Hokkaido). The show exhibits the work of 23 photographers that capture the diversity of natural environments\, distinctive seasons\, and notable sites of Portland’s sister city from the perspective of the people who live there.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nQuiet Reflections of Hokkaido Winter: Photography by Sandra Chandler \n\n\n\nSurrounding Birches\, 2023. Photo by Sandra Chandler.\n\n\n\nIn the Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Arts Learning Center’s Calvin and Mayho Tanabe Gallery is an exhibition of local artist Sandra Chandler\, connecting the perspective of Hokkaido with Portland.
