Join Portland Japanese Garden in celebrating the opening of Designing Nature: Elements of Harmony. In this final exhibition of 2025, experience the Garden as never before by exploring the history, traditions, and art of Japanese gardens. Drop in to the Pavilion Gallery anytime during this window and bring proof of registration to attend. Please email art@japanesegarden.org with any questions.
A journey through the rich legacy and philosophies of Japanese garden design is paired with a selection of artworks evoking the key elements of Japanese gardens: stone, water, and plants. Featuring a large-scale waterfall painting of contemporary nihonga painter Hiroshi Senju, a bamboo sculpture from Chikuunsai Tanabe IV and acclaimed artist Honda Syoryu from the collection of Peter Shinbach, and a selection of suiseki, landscape scene stones, from the collection of Jeffrey and Andrew Robson.
On September 26, Members of Portland Japanese Garden are invited from 2:00-4:00pm to get a first look at this exhibition in the Pavilion Gallery.
The Pavilion will be open at 9:00am Wednesday through Monday (being closed Tuesdays) for member access throughout the exhibition.
Portland Japanese Garden would like to thank James F. and Marion L. The Miller Foundation and Oregon Arts Commission for their support of arts and culture programming.
