SUMMARY:Impressions of Autumn – Expressions of the Moon
DESCRIPTION:\nPresented by Ohara School of Ikebana Oregon Chapter\n\n\n\nBasket arrangement by Carolyn Alter\n\n\n\nVisit Impressions of Autumn – Expressions of the Moon to connect more intimately with the moon and gain a greater appreciation of its expressions through flowers. The special two-day show presented by the Ohara School of Ikebana Oregon Chapter will be held in the Yanai Classroom in the Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Learning Arts Center. \n\n\n\nIkebana\, the Japanese art of flower arranging\, has been translated as “living flowers” or “giving life to flowers\,” and is unique from other approaches to flower arrangement. Artists will attempt to capture the various moods of the moon including rising\, setting\, full and crescent phases in their ikebana arrangements. \n\n\n\nThe Ohara School of Ikebana emphasizes connecting with nature season by season\, utilizing the materials individual character\, and arranging it in a naturalistic way. They are known for moribana\, which broke with the more traditional and formal vertical styles\, creating new horizontal “landscape” arrangements\, with flowers “heaped” (moru) in lower plate-like containers. &nbsp\;\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCarolyn Alter\, Head Teacher of the Ohara School of Ikebana’s Oregon Chapter\, stated the artists seek to “bring the essence of nature into their arrangements.” \n\n\n\nOn Saturday at 1:15 pm\, she will present an ikebana demonstration in the Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Arts Learning Center as part of the show. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
