SUMMARY:Cultural Demonstration: Ikebana by Diane Dixon
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\nIkebana arrangement by Diane Dixon\n\n\n\nIkebana\, the Japanese art of flower arranging\, has been translated as “living flowers” or “giving life to flowers.” Join us from 1:15-2:15pm for an ikebana presentation by Diane Dixon from the Ohara School of Ikebana in the Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Arts Learning Center.\n\n\n\nAbout Ohara School\n\n\n\nThe Ohara School of Ikebana is noted for developing the moribana style. This broke with the more traditional and formal vertical styles\, creating new horizontal arrangements\, with flowers “heaped” (moru) in lower plate-like containers. Ohara School emphasizes seasonal qualities\, natural growth processes\, and the beauty of natural environments. The selection and arrangement of seasonal materials genuinely allows the ikebana devotee to connect with and reflect nature’s beauty.\n\n\n\nAbout the Artist\n\n\nDiane Wang Dixon is an accomplished artist with extensive experience in the traditional Japanese floral art of Ikebana.  Ms. Dixon practices with the Ohara school of Ikebana both in the United Stated and Asia.  She conducts private exhibitions and workshops\, charity fundraising events and artist workshops.  \nMs. Dixon is a global citizen and a seasoned business professional with a diverse cultural background.  She has lived and worked throughout Asia Pacific and North America.  Living in Tokyo for more than ten years allowed her to immerse herself in the true spirit of Ikebana Japanese art\, truly demonstrated by the excellence of her work. Her presentations demonstrate high quality\, authenticity\, and inspiration.\nMs. Dixon is the President of The Asian Art and Culture Foundation and she currently serves as the officer on the Board of Ikebana International\, Portland Chapter.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPortland Japanese Garden receives support from the&nbsp\;Oregon&nbsp\;Arts&nbsp\;Commission\, a state agency funded by the State of&nbsp\;Oregon&nbsp\;and the National Endowment for the&nbsp\;Arts.\n
