DESCRIPTION:\nBon-Odori at Portland Japanese Garden 2023\n\n\n\nA highlight of summer festivals in Japan is the bon-odori (盆踊り/ Bon dance). Each region in Japan has their own version of the dance\, as well as different music. In Japanese Buddhist tradition\, bon-odori is a way to entertain and send off the spirits of our ancestors and celebrate life. Dancers circle the yagura\, a high wooden bandstand for the musicians and singers. Dances will be taught by Chris Dart and demonstrated by dancers from Oregon Buddhist Temple. Come to learn the dances\, see people dressed in yukata\, and to hear and feel the sound of taiko drums.\n\n\n\nSchedule\n\n\n\n10:00 – 10:30am&nbsp\;– Taiko Ensemble Songs by Takohachi/Kotori-Kai\n\n\n\n10:30am – 11:00 am&nbsp\;– First Dance set | This set will feature traditional songs performed by Takohachi. Dances will be taught by Chris Dart and demonstrated by dancers from Oregon Buddhist Temple.\n\n\n\n\nDance 1: Soran Bushi\n\n\n\nDance 2:&nbsp\;Hokkai Bon Uta\n\n\n\nDance 3: Fukishima Ondo\n\n\n\n\n11:15am – 11:45pm&nbsp\;– Second Dance set | This set will feature Japanese dances from the 1980s and 1990s.\n\n\n\n\nDance 4: Heisei\n\n\n\nDance 5: Ichi Tasu Ichi\n\n\n\nDance 6: Pokemon Ondo&nbsp\;\n\n\n\n\n12:00 – 12:30pm&nbsp\;– Third Dance set | This set will feature bon dances popular in the United States.\n\n\n\n\nDance 7: Ya Kyu Ken (baseball song)\n\n\n\nDance 8 Mottainai\n\n\n\nDance 9: Portland Ondo\n\n\n\nDance 10: Tanko Bushi\n\n\n\n\nSet One\n\n\n\n\n\nSet Two\n\n\n\n\n\nSet Three\n\n\n\n\n\nChris Dart (center in the red happi) and dancers from Oregon Buddhist Temple - 2023\n\n\n\n\n
