PORTLAND, Ore. — February 3, 2022 — With Valentine’s Day approaching and chilly conditions around us, what better place to cozy up next to a loved one than Portland Japanese Garden’s Umami Café? The inviting Umami Café is an idyllic and romantic setting, cast against a backdrop of Pacific Northwest forest and the Garden’s Cultural Village.
Visitors will be offered a special tea set on February 12 and February 13 headlined by a special treat from Mio Asaka of Mio’s Delectables, handcrafted raspberry cream pie featuring both fresh raspberry and raspberry confiture paired with a bowl of ceremonial grade matcha tea from the internationally renowned, Tokyo-based, Jugetsudo tea company. The offering begins with house-made miso soup with steamed rice featuring white miso, tofu, chives, and hijiki seaweed.
Reminiscent of Kyoto’s legendary Kiyomizu-dera temple, the Umami Café floats over a scenic hillside that provides enchanting views of the Garden’s surroundings here in Washington Park. Visitors can either begin or conclude their visit to our serene Portland Japanese Garden with a stop by the Umami Café. Here they will be attended by gracious and attentive staff and experience some of the most delightful offerings of Japanese cuisine.

- Garden Member Hours: 8:00am-10:00am | Wednesday – Monday, closed Tuesdays
- Umami Café Hours: 9:30am-3:30pm (last seating 3:30pm) | Wednesday – Monday, closed Tuesdays
- Adult admission: $19.95
