Spring in the Garden: March 09, 2020

On the heels of a mild winter, we’re beginning to see an early spring bloom at Portland Japanese Garden. Here are some of this week’s highlights:

  • The Flat Garden’s Weeping Cherry is sprinkled with delicate pink flowers and the camellias throughout the Garden have striking displays of pink, white and red. Additionally, throughout the Garden, but most prominently displayed in our Flat Garden, you’ll find lovely white urn-shaped flowers on Pieris.
  • The Yoshino Cherry trees’ buds are just beginning to flower. When in full bloom, they will reveal white and light pink flowers whereas the Weeping Cherry is stronger pink.
  • As you’re looking up to spot the blooms, don’t forget to look down to enjoy the lush and bright greens of the moss covering the ground, most prominent in our Natural Garden, Tea Garden, and Strolling Pond Garden.
