Portland Japanese Garden, a proud sponsor of the United Stated Armed Forces, will mark Fleet Week this year by offering free admission for all active military personnel.

“During the Rose Festival Fleet Week, we’re honoring our active military members by inviting them to enjoy a stroll through Portland Japanese Garden. One of the main purposes of Fleet Week has always been to celebrate and thank the women and men who serve us all. We hope they come to Portland Japanese Garden while they are in our great city – and enjoy a free day taking in the Garden’s beauty, peace and serenity,” said Steve Bloom, Chief Executive Officer of Portland Japanese Garden.

Since the very beginning of the Rose Festival more than a century ago, visiting ships have been making their way to Portland’s waterfront. The City of Portland is known to be a favorite port of call for military visitors — and Portlanders enjoy making our military visitors welcome!

To receive free admission during the 2019 Rose Festival Fleet Week (June 5-9) active members of the military must show a military ID, discharge papers or other official military identification.

In addition to offering free admission during the 2019 Rose Festival Fleet Week for all active military members, Portland Japanese Garden will be offering free admission for active military personnel, military veterans and their families who accompany them on Veteran’s Day, Monday, November 11. Families of deployed military personnel also will be given free admission to Portland Japanese Garden on Nov. 11.

Portland Japanese Garden is a nonprofit organization originally founded in 1963 as a place for cross-cultural understanding following World War II. It has become a global destination for Japanese art, nature, and peace in Portland, Oregon. It is considered the most authentic Japanese garden outside of Japan and the foremost Japanese cultural organization in North America.
